Gobble gobble mobile ringtones for Christmas turkeys

Championing the cause of the British turkey for Christmas, NFU Cymru has set up a special website to offer advice on where to buy a locally produced turkey this year. Visitors to the site will also be able to download one of two gobble gobble ringtones.

With almost 100 turkey producers listed on the site offering consumers top class birds for Christmas, www.ukturkeys.co.uk is packed with information on nutrition, cooking advice and games.

The website aims to raise awareness of UK producers and reduce food miles by encouraging shoppers to buy from a local turkey producer or ask their butcher, Is this turkey British? before they buy.

Chairman of the NFU Cymru poultry board David Whistance said, “Over ten million birds are imported into the UK every year, some of them from as far away as South America, so we want to encourage the British consumer to buy local this year and save on food miles.

“To encourage visitors to the site we have two gobbling ringtones to download and a fantastic competition in which you could win a week’s stay on an organic farm or one of ten farm fresh turkeys worth £65 each.

“As well as nutritional information, cooking advice, fun and games, the site features turkey producers from Wales so shoppers on the look out for a turkey will be sure to find a producer near them.”
